Bioinformatics Centre
Bioinformatics Centre at Bose Institute was originally established in 1988 as one of the Distributed Information Centers, funded by Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, which started the computing facilities and IT services in research, but also started to train researchers in Bioinformatics and computational biology. In 2004 this project it was categorized by DBT as a “Centre of Excellence in Bioinformatics”. The activities of the Division maintain a balance between the fundamental as well as the translational research. Later it also served as the precursor of the Division of Bioinformatics which after as existence of shorter period, got merged into the Department of Biological Sciences. Currently the Bioinformatics Centre runs as a new DBT funded project at Bose Institute. The Participating PIs are Prof. Shubhra Ghosh Dastidar, Prof. Zhumur Ghosh, Dr. Sudipto Saha and the Co-PIs are Prof. Pallob Kundu, Prof. Anirban Bhunia, Prof. Wriddhiman Ghosh, Dr. Abhrajyoti Ghosh and Prof. Pinak Chakrabarti. The activities of the center not only include the R&D work but also have the mandates to organize seminars, training, workshops at regular intervals.
Other than this center-project itself, the PIs of this project are also involved in a National Network Project (DBT funded) with Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata and Vidyasagar University, Midnapore.
Prof. Shubhra Ghosh Dastidar is serving as a coordinator of the two projects.
