PUBLICATIONS

History:

Bose Institute has a long history of publication of the research work conducted at the Institute since the time of the Founder Director- Sir Jagadis Chandra Bose. During those times, publications were authored by Sir J.C. Bose himself and Dr. D.M. Bose. The separate unit of publication was set up in 1980, initiated by the then Director Prof. S.C. Bhattacharyya   to deal with the increasing volume of publication matters. Since then, the Publication Section has been entrusted with the responsibility of bringing out all publications of Bose Institute on a regular basis.

Administrative Publications:

  1. Annual Report (both English & Hindi):  

The annual report, published every year since 1918, aims at providing an account of all the activities undertaken by the Institute during the past financial year. It gives an overall idea about the management of the Institute, Institutional projects, scientific reports, research publications, seminars/ symposia organized, work of the service departments, list of personnel and finally the statement of accounts. 

  1. Bose Institute Newsletter (BI News):

BI News is released on the Foundation day, 30th November every year. It provides a brief summary of all the important activities conducted throughout the year, commemorative events, conferences/ symposia held, visits abroad by scientists, recipients of awards and honours, recent Ph.D. awardees, patents, staff news and information about the forthcoming events of the Institute.

There is an exclusive interview given by Bose after his lecture at the British Association, Liverpool (1896), a copy of Bose’s Patent application in the year 1904 and a facsimile of Bose’s note to the Secretary of Asiatic Society of Bengal. Readers also get an account of the fourteen original research papers of J. C. The present volume gives an account of the Addresses delivered by Acharya J.C. Bose as President of the Bengal Literary Conference (1911), at Mayavati (1912), Presidency College (1913), Lahore University, Madurai (1915), Indian Science Congress, Lucknow (1916), BHU (1916), Royal Society of Arts, London and various lectures delivered at Bose Institute from time to time. One also gets to know of his address to the students of Presidency College after his knighthood in February 15, 1917. Prof. Bose’s inaugural address dedicated to Bose Institute on November 30, 1917 as well as the facsimile of a part of manuscript of the Dedication Address provide an added interest. 

The volume also includes 12 articles written by Bose, published in Calcutta Municipal Gazette (1931), Modern Review (1908, 1917), Bengal Educational Journal (1913), Presidency College Magazine (1916), Transaction (1919, 1920), Manchester Guardian (1922, 1925), etc. In addition, the book contains around 29 letters exchanged between Acharya J.C. Bose and noted stalwarts like Lord Rayleigh, Sir William Crookes, Prof. Hans Molisch, Romain Rolland and to the Editor of Nature. When Acharya J.C. Bose’s 70th birthday was celebrated, a large number of national, international, eminent personalities sent their appreciations and opinions about him which are quoted in this volume. Prof. D.M. Bose wonderfully wrote about the life of Acharya J.C. Bose as observed by him. Eminent persons like Dr. Nilratan Sarkar, Acharya M.N. Saha and Ramananda Chatterjee provided their appreciation of J.C. Bose from their respective points of view. Two more interviews with Prof. Bose are given in this book. There is also a facsimile of a letter written by Bernard Shaw to Acharya J.C. Bose. Both Acharya J.C. Bose and Abala Bose travelled throughout the country and appreciated beauties of nature as well as Indian Art. An account of the places of their travels along with photographs has been given. Excerpts on thoughts of Acharya J.C. Bose as obtained from his diaries, file notes and newspapers have been listed in this volume. Scientific appreciation of Bose’s work by Einstein, Prof. Cohen, Prof. S. Vines, Prof. Haberlandt are also available in this book.  Besides, an unpublished manuscript of Acharya J.C. Bose and sketches of Bose’s experimental notes can be found in this book.
